Educator Effectiveness

Research shows that teachers and school administrators are key determiners of student success. The CA CC assists the California Department of Education (CDE), the Regional Educational Laboratory West, and other statewide networks to identify and implement innovative models to support, evaluate, and promote teacher and principal effectiveness. As research suggests new approaches to support student achievement, educators’ standards and practices should evolve accordingly to address emerging training, support, and knowledge needs. In this area, the CA CC focuses on how to apply research regarding educator effectiveness to the development and implementation of policy, structures, and practices that improve student outcomes.

Work Highlights

Integrated Leadership Development Initiative (ILDI)

The purpose of the ILDI collaborative is to advance leadership development as a key strategy for improving California schools and districts, by making research and policy recommendations come to life in a coherent and cohesive system of leadership development. The CA CC is joined in this collaborative effort by the CDE, California’s public and private universities, and the Association of California School Administrators, among others.

Labor Management

WestEd’s School Turnaround Center, the CA CC, and CalTURN (the California chapter of the national Teachers Union Reform Network) co-hosted a conference on labor-management collaboration. Labor and management leaders from 11 California school districts met in Los Angeles to examine collaboration as a way to advance student learning with labor agreements that are fair and equitable.
